Designed by Peter Moore and released on 11 August 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Electro Orange/Black/White. Metallic Orange is a specific kind of Jordan 1 decision. The 1 was built by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, released to the public on 1 April 1985, and its original colour logic was flat leather in Chicago red, black and white. Metallic finishes came later in the line's life, once the shoe had stopped being sports equipment and become a canvas. A metallic accent on the Mid is a deliberately synthetic gesture: it catches light, changes tone with the angle you view it from, and refuses to look like the matte archive. If you want a 1 that announces itself under artificial light rather than in daylight, this is the version built for it.
Recipe one: dark, so the metallic works, black jeans, a black long sleeve, and a grey overshirt, letting the orange be the only reflective surface. Recipe two: white tee, cream carpenter trousers, and a denim jacket, where the orange sits warm against the neutrals and the whole thing stays daylight friendly. Avoid other shiny materials in the same outfit, since two metallics look accidental. White socks, mid crew, so the Mid collar has something to sit against. Fit true to size. Wipe metallic panels with a soft damp cloth only, never a stiff brush, since bristles dull the finish, and store them in a box away from direct light.
The 1 sits at the centre of sneaker collecting as a mass activity, with original 1985 pairs trading around 20,000 dollars on StockX and a resale market valued at roughly 2 billion dollars built on top of it. That economy exists because Nike learned early that provocation moved product, first through the Banned advertising built on the NBA's uniform rule and its 5,000 dollar per game fine, and then through Spike Lee's campaigns where Lee played Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan. Metallic colourways are a small chapter in that story, but they exist for the same reason everything else does: the outline is famous enough to carry any finish you put on it.
The Mid cut collar sits at the ankle bone, which is the practical middle ground: enough structure to hold the foot, low enough to move quickly. Metallic panels are surface treatments, so they behave differently from plain leather. They resist water better, they wipe clean easily, and they scratch and scuff in a way that is permanent rather than blendable. Keep them away from abrasive surfaces and other shoes in the same bag. The white and orange contrast makes the panel structure explicit, so the shape reads sharply even at a distance. Lace firmly at the arch, loosely at the collar, and expect the metallic areas to crease into visible lines across the toe box early.
