Released on 4 February 2023 and part of the AJKO line. This release has a leather upper in Sail/Muslin/Neutral Grey. The Michael Jordan signing of 1984 did not stay an endorsement deal. It became a line, and then a business with its own gravity inside Nike, which is why the Air Jordan 1 has been reissued, rebuilt and reinterpreted more often than any other Nike silhouette. The KO is one of those rebuilds: the Jordan 1 rendered in a soft, textile led construction rather than in structured leather, which changes the shoe's character completely. This low cut version comes from a Union LA collaboration, named in the product itself, in Sail and Muslin. Both are fabric words rather than colour words, which tells you exactly where the design's attention has gone.
Two fits. Undyed and tonal: ecru or off white trousers with a cream knit, so the shoe sits inside a single warm palette and the texture is what registers. Or contrast it hard: raw indigo denim and a navy chore jacket, where the pale textile body reads bright against dark cotton. Good for daily wear, weekends, travel and casual offices. A low cut textile shoe is forgiving on fit, so go true to size, but be realistic about the maintenance. Pale fabric marks easily and cannot be scrubbed like leather: brush dry, spot clean gently with a mild cleaner, and treat visible wear as part of how this build is meant to age.
Jordan 1 collaborations are the most scrutinised product in sneakers, and the ones that endure are those that change the shoe's construction rather than its colours. Reworking it in textile and stripping the palette back to two shades of undyed white is a deliberately anti spectacular decision on a silhouette whose fame was built by advertising, including the Spike Lee directed Mars Blackmon campaigns that turned the 1 into a character. It is also worth putting the folklore straight: the model cited under the NBA's uniform rule in that era was the Nike Air Ship prototype rather than the Air Jordan 1, and Nike paid the fines. This pair belongs to a quieter chapter of the same story.
The KO's whole argument is softness. Where the standard Jordan 1 uses stiff panelled leather that holds its shape and creases sharply, this build works in a pliable textile body, so the shoe collapses and moves with the foot instead of resisting it. Cut low, that softness is even more pronounced, since there is no ankle collar giving structure. Sail and Muslin are both warm off whites, so contrast comes from texture and stitching rather than from colour, which is why the panel edges and eyestay do so much visual work here. Nike Air cushioning sits sealed in the midsole. Expect a fast break in and a shoe that ages by softening and staining rather than by cracking.
