Origin
University Blue over black is one of the strongest colour pairings in Nike's vocabulary, a pale sporting blue set against something that absorbs all the light around it, and the Air Max Dn8 gives it the most three dimensional canvas in the current range. This family exists because of a decision made in 1987, when the first Air Max put the pressurised gas unit on show and turned cushioning into a visible design feature instead of an engineering secret. Utility

Construction
The midsole is the design here. Nike Air is pressurised gas sealed inside the sole for cushioning, and since 1987 the brand has built entire models around letting you see it. Above that sits a layered upper in mesh and synthetic panels, with University Blue carrying the body and black taking the structural sections and the Swoosh, so the colour split explains the shoe's construction rather than decorating it. Expect a tall ride, a bouncy feel with less ground contact than a flat court shoe, and noticeable weight. Pale blue picks up dust quickly, so regular light cleaning matters more here than an occasional deep clean of the sole unit.
