Origin
Designed by Bruce Kilgore and part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Sail/Black/Sail. Bruce Kilgore designed the Air Force 1 by borrowing from a Nike hiking boot called the Approach, lifting its lowered heel collar to take pressure off the Achilles and applying that to basketball. It landed in late October 1982 as the first basketball shoe to carry Nike Air, and the first time Nike used slip-lasted construction. Nike claimed 30 percent better shock cushioning and 20 percent more resilience than a standard shoe. Then Baltimore happened: in 1985, three retailers there rereleased 3,000 pairs and sold out instantly, which set off the East Coast obsession that never really stopped. The Wmns Air Force 1 '07 Essential Sail Black, style code HF1058-133, arrived on February 7, 2024, and it is the quiet, wearable end of that forty year run.
Utility
Two combinations that land. First, straight-leg blue denim with a white or grey tee and a black cardigan or blazer, where the black Swoosh ties to the top layer and the sail base keeps it warm rather than stark.
