Nike Wmns Air Force 1 '07 Next Nature 'White Flax'
Nike Wmns Air Force 1 '07 Next Nature 'White Flax'
Culture Note™️
Origin
Next Nature is Nike admitting that the most useful thing it can do with an icon is rebuild it out of recovered material. The company has run Nike Grind for years, recycling manufacturing scrap and worn shoes back into new product and into surfaces, and Next Nature takes that thinking into the upper and midsole of the shoe itself. Putting it on the women's Air Force 1 07 rather than a niche runner is the point: this is the silhouette that became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s onward and then a fixture of mainstream dress, so changing how it is made reaches more people than any concept shoe could. White Flax gives it a soft, sand toned finish rather than the usual stark white on white.
Utility
Two ways to wear it. First, tonal neutral: cream wide leg trousers, an oatmeal knit, a camel coat, so the flax tone reads as part of the palette rather than a white sneaker bolted on. Second, sharp contrast: black straight leg jeans, a black leather jacket, white tee, letting the warm white soften an otherwise hard outfit. Good for daily wear, walking, school runs and office adjacent dress codes, less good for mud or heavy rain. Air Force 1s run large, so most women size down half from their usual sneaker size. Clean with a soft brush and mild soap, avoid harsh whiteners on a warm toned upper because they will bleach out the flax, and air dry indoors.
Influence
The Air Force 1 carries more cultural weight than almost anything else Nike makes. It moved from basketball into hip hop and street dress in the 1980s, became a default of mainstream American youth wardrobes, and returned through the casual and athleisure eras without ever really leaving. Rebuilding it with recycled content is a statement precisely because the shoe is so ordinary: it puts the argument in front of people who are not shopping for sustainability. Nike Grind, which turns worn shoes and factory scrap into new product and surfaces, is the older version of the same idea, and it is one of the few company programmes that has run quietly for decades rather than as a campaign.
Construction
This row carries no style code, so the name is the spec sheet. Next Nature means a construction using a significant proportion of recycled content, which on an Air Force 1 typically shows in the upper material and in the foam of the midsole. The silhouette is unchanged: a thick cupsole, a perforated toe box, a stitched Swoosh, an ankle strap, and the encapsulated Nike Air unit hidden inside the midsole rather than exposed. White Flax means the white is warmed with a flax tone, which is more forgiving than a pure white because scuffs and creasing read as shading rather than damage. Recycled uppers can feel slightly different underhand, so treat the surface gently when cleaning.
