Designed by Peter Moore and released on 5 April 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Sail/Cinnabar/Light Bone. Rare Air is the brand's own phrase for the thing it sells: elevation, the moment in the air rather than the landing. The house mark says the same in one image, the Jumpman, a silhouette of Jordan mid leap with legs split, which Peter Moore had him recreate in Bulls gear for the brand. Sail and cinnabar put that idea in warm tones, an off white base with a deep orange red that is closer to pigment than to team colour. It is a women's build of the Retro High OG, so the proportions are the 1985 ones Peter Moore drew with Bruce Kilgore, unchanged and uninterpreted.
Two ways to run it. First, cream or ecru wide leg trousers with a white tee, a warm tonal fit where the cinnabar is the only saturated note and the sail base disappears into the palette. Second, indigo denim with a rust or brick knit, pulling the orange red upward so the shoe anchors the outfit. Highs want a cuffed or cropped hem so the collar shows and your leg does not get cut short. Treat the sail panels before first wear, brush after use, keep the pair off wet streets, and store it with paper inside to hold the collar.
The Air Jordan 1 became a cultural object through Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising, with Lee playing Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, and through hip hop, which kept the shoes in the language for decades. Since 1997 the line has run as Jordan Brand, a standalone division inside Nike with a roster that includes signed WNBA athletes Maya Moore and Jordin Canada and artist collaborators including Billie Eilish and Nicki Minaj. Women's builds of the Retro High OG belong to that broadened brand rather than to the 1985 story alone, which is why they get palettes the original never had.
Sail is a warmer white than pure white, which changes what cinnabar does next to it: the pairing reads soft and slightly aged rather than high contrast, and it will look better as it wears than a stark white pair would. The High OG upper gives both tones a lot of surface, split into toe, quarter, swoosh, collar and tongue, with the Wings mark from the line's earliest era at the ankle. A women's build keeps those proportions on a narrower last. Sail marks and yellows more visibly than grey, so protect the upper before first wear, clean marks the same day, and keep the pair away from direct sunlight in storage.
