Released on 26 February 2021 and part of the Air Jordan 1 Zoom line. This release has a leather upper in Photon Dust/Light Smoke Grey/Grey Fog. City editions are Jordan Brand acknowledging that its founding shoe now belongs to places the brand never played in, and London is one of the strongest of those arguments. The Air Jordan 1 was drawn by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, produced for Michael Jordan in November 1984 and sold publicly from April 1985 as basketball equipment. Four decades later it is street uniform across Europe, and a London makeup on the Zoom Air Comfort build is the brand admitting that most of the miles put on this silhouette are walked rather than run. The Comfort platform exists for exactly that reason: the same High silhouette, rebuilt so it can survive a full day on pavement rather than four quarters on hardwood.
Build around outerwear, since this is a walking shoe for a grey city. Charcoal wide leg trousers, a black hoodie and a long overcoat is the version that suits its bulk, letting the shoe anchor a heavy silhouette. The lighter option is straight leg indigo denim with a cream knit, which softens the profile. Cuff the hem so the collar shows, otherwise the Comfort build looks heavier than it is. Sizing runs long on many feet, so try a half size down. Because this pair is built for real mileage, treat it accordingly: dry it slowly away from radiators after wet days, brush the midsole edge often, and rotate it so the cushioning recovers between wears.
Jordan Brand's reach outside American basketball is documented in its partnerships: it became sole equipment provider to the Michigan Wolverines football programme in 2016 and sponsored Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, its first association football club. City makeups run on the same logic at wardrobe scale. The cultural machinery that made the Air Jordan 1 global started with Spike Lee's Nike advertising, where he directed and played Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, and with 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z putting the shoes into records. A London edition is the brand recognising that the shoe's second home is a city with its own music and its own weather.
This is the High shape with the underfoot conversation changed. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the Air Jordan line since the second model, and the Zoom Air Comfort build brings that technology forward into a version of the 1 designed for standing and walking rather than for lateral cuts. The upper keeps the original panel map, with the collar rising over the ankle and the Wings logo in place, but the collar and tongue are built for softness rather than for containment, which is why this variant breaks in faster than a Retro High OG. Expect a slightly bulkier profile than an OG build, which is the visible cost of the cushioning underneath.
