Designed by Peter Moore and released on 22 July 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in University Blue/Black/White. UNC is the colour code of North Carolina, the university Jordan himself attended and one of the college basketball programmes Jordan Brand outfits alongside Georgetown, Cincinnati and Michigan. Toe describes the block: a pale university blue sitting on the toe cap and heel against white, so the shoe carries the colour in the two places the eye lands first. On the Low, with the ankle removed, that placement becomes the entire design. It is the least aggressive way the brand tells its own origin story, pointing back past the Bulls and the 1984 signing to the campus where the player was formed, and it is why this palette keeps returning across cuts and models.
Pale blue plays best against neutral and denim. Light wash straight leg jeans, a white tee and a navy cap gives you a summer outfit where the toe colour ties to the denim without matching it. For something crisper, cream chinos, a white oxford and a light knit over the shoulders lets the shoe read almost preppy, which suits its college origin. Keep other blues away from it unless they are clearly darker, since near miss blues look like an error. The low cut is built for heat and works with no show or low white socks. Clean the white immediately after wear, treat the blue panels gently, and never dry it near a heater.
Jordan Brand's reach into college sport is not decorative. UNC colours on a 1 are the shoe acknowledging where the whole thing started, before the six year Nike deal signed in October 1984, before the Jumpman, before any of it was a business worth billions. It reads as heritage to people who know and as a good pale blue to everyone else, which is the ideal position for a colourway.
White leather across the body with university blue on the toe cap and heel counter, the two panels that define a Toe layout, and a white midsole underneath keeping the whole thing bright. The low cut removes the padded ankle collar, giving you a flexible, warm weather shoe that sits closer to a court trainer in feel than the high does. The Jumpman carries branding duty.
