Designed by Peter Moore and released on 24 March 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Black/Green Glow. Green Glow is the brightest kind of accent this line uses, a sharp, almost fluorescent green that exists to sit against black or white rather than to cover a shoe. On a grade school Mid it does the job it was designed for: making a familiar silhouette look new to someone who has no memory of the original. The Jordan 1 pattern dates to 1984 and 1985, drawn by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, and the Mid is the cut that made that shape affordable enough to become a default school shoe. Kids do not buy the history, they buy the colour, and this is the colour that gets picked off a wall first.
Let the green be the accent it was designed to be. Black joggers with a black hoodie and a white tee underneath makes the shoe the single bright object, which is the cleanest way to wear it. For warmer days, grey shorts and a plain white crew with black crew socks keeps the contrast working without adding another colour. Do not pair it with a second bright tone. Buy with a thumb of growing room and check the heel is not slipping, since a Mid gives less hold than a High. Wipe the midsole often, keep bright panels away from harsh cleaners, and let it dry away from radiators.
Air Jordan is the shoe that turned sneaker collecting into a mass activity, and the youth sizes are where the habit begins, usually with a colour rather than a story. The wider line reached that position through hip hop and through Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising with Lee as Mars Blackmon, and it holds it now through a roster that runs past basketball into the NFL with Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott and the WNBA with Maya Moore and Jordin Canada. A bright green Mid is the entry level version of belonging to all of that: correct silhouette, loud colour, no ceremony attached.
The GS Mid is the standard Jordan 1 pattern scaled for younger feet: layered panels, a collar between the High and the Low, the Wings mark at the ankle and a flat rubber cupsole that stays stable under a light wearer. There is no visible cushioning here, that arrived in the line with the Air Jordan II, so the ride is firm and the shoe wears down evenly rather than collapsing in one place. Bright green accents are the parts that show scuffing first because they sit at the toe and heel, the two places a child's shoe takes impact. Brush after wear, clean the midsole weekly, and the green stays sharp far longer.
