This release has a cotton upper in Red. adidas has spent decades collaborating with fashion houses and designers, from Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 to Stella McCartney, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang, but a slide is a different kind of object from a sneaker. There is no silhouette history to protect and no performance claim to make. It is a strap and a footbed, which means the entire design argument is material, proportion and branding. This Gucci partnered slide in red does exactly that: it puts a monogram treatment across the strap and lets the two marks share the same small piece of rubber. Red raises the stakes further, because a red slide is not a shoe anybody wears quietly.
A red logo slide only works if the rest is calm. Try black wide leg trousers or shorts with a plain white tee, and let the slide be the entire statement, socks optional depending on how committed you are. Poolside and holiday use is the honest home for it: swim shorts, a linen shirt, nothing else competing. Avoid pairing it with other loud branding, because two monograms plus a graphic tee reads as a shop floor. There is no arch support and no heel, so keep walking distances short. Rinse after every beach or pool session, dry in shade, and store flat so the strap keeps its shape.
The luxury slide is one of the odder objects in modern fashion: a piece of poolside plastic priced and branded like jewellery, and it exists because logos became the fastest way to signal a wardrobe. adidas is unusually well placed for that game because the Three Stripes work as pure graphic, legible at any size, on any surface, which is exactly what a strap needs. Pairing it with another house's monogram doubles the signal rather than diluting it. Nobody is buying this for the footbed. They are buying two marks stacked on the most casual footwear format there is, which is precisely the joke and the point.
A slide is decided at two points: how wide the strap is and how the footbed is contoured. The strap here carries the monogram and the co-branded detailing, which is the visible half of the product, and the moulded footbed under it does the actual work of holding your foot without a heel counter or a lace. Rubber and synthetic construction means it is water tolerant and easy to rinse, which is the practical case for a slide in the first place. Red shows sunscreen, oil and pool chemicals faster than a dark colour, so rinse after beach or poolside use and dry it out of direct sun to keep the tone from fading unevenly.
