Culture Note™
Released on 1 February 2025 and part of the Adizero Evo SL line. This release has a mesh upper in Lucid Lemon/Core Black/Metallic Silver. Lucid Lemon is adidas using colour as a performance signal. It is an acid, almost fluorescent yellow, the kind of tone that exists in running because it is visible at distance and in low light, and it makes the Evo SL look like what it is: a shoe descended from the adizero competition programme. adidas has been designing to a single athletic job since Adolf Dassler worked out of a laundry room in Herzogenaurach, and the racing line is where that discipline still applies. The lemon is not a fashion decision borrowed from elsewhere, it is a running convention that fashion later took.
On the road, use it for tempo sessions, intervals and race days, and keep a more cushioned shoe for long slow miles. Off the road, the colour does all the work: black joggers and a black tee gives the yellow maximum contrast, while grey sweat shorts and a white tee keeps it summery without competing. Do not add a second bright colour. Race fits run snug, so allow for swelling on longer efforts. Clean by hand with a soft brush and mild soap, never a machine, and air dry away from heat, since bright synthetic uppers dull and yellow further with high temperatures.
adidas splits its identity between the Trefoil, which marks Originals lifestyle product, and the three angled bars introduced in 1997 by creative director Peter Moore, which mark performance. This shoe belongs to the second world, the part of the company that developed Boost with German chemical company BASF in 2013 and sold the adidas 1 as the world's first intelligent shoe with a microprocessor performing five million calculations a second. Loud colour is how that side of the business has always announced itself, and the running audience reads it fluently.
A very light engineered upper with almost no overlays, built to hold the foot with as little material as possible, over a foam midsole tuned for turnover rather than for maximum cushioning. Within the wider adizero family the competition models use thermoplastic polyester elastomer midsoles with embedded carbon rods rather than a single stiff plate, and the Evo SL is the pared back trainer that sits beside them. The fit is close and race style through the midfoot. A bright yellow upper shows dirt faster than any other colour in the range, particularly along the toe and the midsole edge, so it will look used quickly if you run in it on wet roads.
