Origin
Released on 1 March 2021 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Cloud White/Royal Blue. The Forum is adidas' basketball shoe from the era when basketball shoes were built like equipment, and the low version keeps the strap that made the high top recognisable. White with royal blue is the most sporting way to buy it: a bright, saturated team blue against a clean white upper, the colour language of a court rather than of a wardrobe. adidas has always designed backwards from a specific athletic job, a habit that goes back to Adolf Dassler making one purpose built shoe at a time, and the Forum still carries the visual evidence of that even now that nobody plays in it.
Utility
Bright blue and white asks for simple clothes. Straight leg indigo denim with a white tee lets the trim rhyme with the jeans, or grey sweatpants with a navy hoodie for a fully sporting read where the blue repeats up top. Avoid adding a third colour. The Forum is bulkier than a terrace shoe, so it needs a trouser with enough width to sit over it. Sizing is generally true to size on this shape. Wipe the white leather the same day it marks, use an eraser block on the cupsole sidewall, and keep the strap's hook and loop free of lint so it keeps holding.
Influence
adidas owned basketball footwear before it owned anything else in culture. The Superstar arrived in 1969 with its rubber shell toe and by 1973 was reportedly worn by more than 75 percent of NBA players, with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and George Gervin among the early adopters. The Forum belongs to the generation of court shoes that followed, built when the brand still expected these things to be played in. adidas continues to back the sport through signature athletes including James Harden, but the Forum now lives mostly as a lifestyle object under the Trefoil.
Construction
A white leather upper with royal blue Three Stripes and trim, an ankle strap across the instep and a rubber cupsole underneath. The strap is the model's signature and it is functional as well as decorative, adding a second closure point over the laces, which is why the shoe locks the foot down more firmly than a low profile court shoe like the Samba. The build is heavier and more padded than adidas' terrace silhouettes, with a taller sidewall and more structure through the collar. White leather with a bright trim will crease across the vamp and pick up scuffs on the toe, and the sidewall is the first thing to mark against kerbs.
