The Gazelle landed in 1966 as adidas's first shoe built on suede instead of canvas or leather, sold in two colourways with tread patterns tuned to indoor and outdoor surfaces. The Indoor is the version cut closest to that original: a slimmer, longer last than the modern Gazelle, a thin semi-transparent sole you can see the suede through, and a trefoil pattern moulded into the tread where the regular Gazelle runs honeycomb. It sat quiet for decades before 2023 pulled it back, when tour crowds turned the silhouette into a uniform and the low-profile terrace shoe took over from the chunky runner. It travelled through European hip-hop and Britpop crowds as the cheap way to look right, and terrace culture kept it alive long after adidas stopped selling it as performance gear.
