Released on 1 June 2025 and part of adidas's Samba Jane line. This release has a leather upper in Footwear White/Alumina/Core Black. The Samba Jane takes the flattest, most familiar shape in adidas Originals and replaces the lacing with a strap across the instep, which turns a sports silhouette into something closer to a shoe you would have worn to school. White with black and a gum sole keeps it grounded in the original colour logic, so the reference stays legible: this is unmistakably a Samba, just resolved differently. adidas has spent decades leaving this shape alone and changing only colour, so a genuine structural rework is rare, and this one is aimed squarely at the women's side of the range rather than at the archive collector.
Utility
The open instep is the styling opportunity. Wear it with a midi skirt and short white socks for a deliberately schoolyard read, or with cropped straight jeans and a black knit where the strap becomes the only unusual detail in an otherwise plain outfit. It is a good warm weather shoe and a poor wet weather one, since the exposed top of the foot catches everything. Fit matters more than on a laced pair, so try before committing and size a half down if you are narrow. Clean the white leather promptly, brush the gum sole with mild soap, and keep the strap hardware dry.
Influence
The women's line within adidas Originals has been shaped by designers as much as by sport. Stella McCartney has collaborated with the brand since 2004, and adidas effectively invented the modern designer sneaker partnership through Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3, Jeremy Scott, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang, with Beyonce among its music collaborators. Reworking a heritage silhouette into a strap shoe belongs to that tradition of treating archive shapes as raw material. The Trefoil that marks this range, designed in 1971 and launched for the 1972 Munich Olympics, is the signal that this is lifestyle product rather than kit.
Construction
A white leather upper with black Three Stripes and a strap crossing the instep in place of a full lacing system, over a gum rubber outsole. The strap changes the fit logic completely: instead of tightening across the whole foot, you get one point of adjustment, so the shoe needs to fit correctly through the length and width from the start. Gum is a softer compound that grips smooth floors well and yellows with wear, which most people accept as part of the look. White leather with black trim shows creasing quickly across the vamp, and the exposed instep means the top of your foot is visible, which affects sock choice more than you expect.
