Designed by Peter Moore and released on 30 November 2020 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a patent leather upper in Black/Black/Metallic Gold. Gold on a Jordan 1 is not a flex, it is a callback. This High OG traces to an elusive Friends and Family Air Jordan 1 from the 1980s, a pair almost nobody outside the building ever saw. The idea finally reached the public in 2003 as a black and gold Air Jordan 1 Mid, one of the first patent leather Jordan 1s the brand ever put out. Seventeen years later Jordan Brand gave that story the treatment it deserved: full high cut, OG proportions, style code 555088-032, released November 30, 2020 on Cyber Monday at 170 dollars. Same black and gold language, better silhouette, and an OG satin woven label to mark it as the proper version rather than a reissue of a compromise.
Two ways to run it. All black: straight-leg black denim or wide tailored trousers, black tee, black bomber, and the gold Swoosh becomes the only accent in the fit. Or contrast it: cream wide-leg pants, a heavy grey hoodie, and let the patent gloss be the shine against soft fabric. Sizing is simple, the Jordan 1 High fits true to size, though leather pairs feel snug for the first few wears until they break in. If your feet are genuinely wide, a half size up is the safer buy. Patent asks for different care than tumbled leather: wipe with a soft cotton cloth, use a mild all-purpose cleaner instead of harsh detergent, buff the shine back gently, and store away from heat.
Black and gold is the Jordan 1 colorway that never needed a story to sell itself. It works on a stage, at a wedding, and in a rotation that otherwise has no patent in it. This High OG is the pair collectors point to when they want to prove the model can do formal without turning into a dress shoe.
