Released on 14 February 2024 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Preloved Green/Cloud White. The Forum comes from the era when adidas was designing basketball shoes as visible machinery, with an ankle strap, an X shaped lacing panel and a tall walled cupsole that all announced their function. The Low CL is the pared back, cleaner version of that: same DNA, fewer edges, cut below the ankle so it works as an everyday shoe rather than as court equipment. White with Preloved Green is a soft, faded green against a clean white leather base, the sort of tone that looks like it has already spent a season in the sun. It gives a fairly aggressive silhouette a gentleness that the original colourways never had.
Muted green is easy to place, which is the advantage of this colourway over a primary one. Recipe one: cream or off white wide trousers with a grey sweatshirt, letting the green accent read as the only colour and the white leather carry the outfit. Recipe two: mid wash denim with a khaki overshirt, where the shoe's green picks up the jacket and ties the fit together. Keep the cupsole sidewall clean with a magic sponge, since a tall white wall is what dates this silhouette fastest. Wipe the leather with a damp cloth and condition occasionally. Lace it properly through the panel rather than leaving the top rows loose.
The Forum belongs to the same basketball archive that gave adidas its first great cultural accident. The Superstar was worn by a reported 75 percent of NBA players by 1973 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and George Gervin among early adopters, then hip hop adopted it wholesale and gave adidas a second life it did not design. The Forum followed that route decades later, pulled out of the archive by people who wanted the strap and the shape rather than the sport. A faded green and white execution is that shoe at its most domesticated, aimed at everyday wear rather than at anyone trying to look like they play.
A leather upper over a chunky cupsole with a raised sidewall is the core of it, with the Forum's lacing panel and strap detailing carried through in the low cut. The Three Stripes run the quarter as reinforcing banding, which is how adidas has used them since acquiring the mark from Karhu Sports in 1952. The CL treatment simplifies the trims so the leather surface stays dominant, which is why the shoe reads cleaner than a standard Forum despite the same tooling underneath. Preloved Green sits as the accent against white, muted enough that it never competes with the leather. Cupsole sidewalls this tall show scuffing early, so the sole is the maintenance point rather than the upper.
