No print, no pattern, just leather in light cream: this is Michael Kors at his most minimal, and it is closer to what the founder says he actually likes than the logo pieces are. He describes his aesthetic as refined minimalism built around camel and black, jersey and cashmere, clothes and accessories made for travel and visible ease rather than ornament. A plain leather crossbody in a pale neutral is that sentence with nothing added. The Jet Set name still applies because the format is a travel one, worn across the body, hands free, but the surface treatment puts it in a different conversation from the signature print, aimed at someone who wants the bag and not the announcement.
Recipe one, weekend: cream leather worn crossbody over a navy knit, straight leg jeans and brown boots, so the bag is the light note against dark clothing. Recipe two, summer evening: black linen shirt, black trousers, strap shortened to sit at the ribs, letting the pale leather do all the contrast work. Pale leather and dark denim are a slow motion problem, so alternate which side you wear it on and check the contact panel regularly. Do not use household cleaners on unprotected leather. The founder's authority in accessories was proved on someone else's territory before it was proved on his own. He came back and relaunched his own name with what he had learned.
