Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Birch Carbon

Released on 1 August 2023 and part of the Mexico 66 line. This release has a leather upper in Birch/Carbon. Birch Carbon is the Mexico 66 in greyscale with the warmth left in. Birch is the off white that reads like unbleached paper, and Carbon is a dark, slightly soft grey rather than a hard black, so the crossed stripes sit on the quarter without cutting it in half the way true black does. The silhouette goes back to 1966, when Onitsuka built the Mexico line as a flagship capable of competing with Adidas and Puma, released two years before the 1968 Mexico City Games. This is the version of that shoe you buy when you already own a loud pair and want the one that does not ask anything of the rest of your wardrobe.
