Released on 9 December 2025 and part of Nike's Dunk SB line. This release has a textile upper in University Red/Black/Yellow Strike/Deep Royal Blue. The tam o shanter is the shoe's whole brief: a Scottish wool hat rendered as a sneaker, tartan logic and all, arriving through a collaboration with an interviewer rather than an athlete or a designer. That is a very Nike SB thing to do and a very unusual thing for a sportswear company generally. The Dunk is the right vehicle because its panel structure can carry a pattern without the shape fighting it, and because SB has spent its existence handing the model to people from outside sport. Nothing about this release comes from a court, a track or a gym, and it is not pretending to.
A patterned upper sets the rules: one colour above it, no competing print. Try loose black jeans with a plain black or cream sweatshirt, so the tartan is the only pattern in the outfit. For a warmer version, brown corduroy trousers with a cream knit, which puts the shoe in the same material family as the clothes. Cuff the hem clear of the collar so the pattern reads. Dry days only, and use a fabric protector before first wear rather than after the first mark. Sizing follows the Dunk last, long through the toe, half down for most, though skaters often stay true.
Nike has always been willing to put non athletes at the centre of a product story. Spike Lee directed Air Jordan advertising and appeared in it as Mars Blackmon, which put a basketball shoe inside a comedy and inside hip hop simultaneously, and the company later worked with the artist Takashi Murakami on digital product in 2022. Nike SB extends that instinct furthest, giving the Dunk to shops, riders, artists and personalities whose relevance has nothing to do with sport. The result is a catalogue where a piece of Scottish headwear can become a skate shoe without anyone having to explain the logic.
An SB Dunk Low, which means a padded tongue and collar for board impact, a Zoom Air insole underfoot and a rubber cupsole with skate tread, under an upper built around a textile pattern. Woven and checked materials on a sneaker behave like clothing rather than leather: they hold dirt in the weave, they fray at abrasion points, and they cannot be scrubbed. Brush dry, spot clean gently, and keep them away from rain entirely, since a wet woven panel dries unevenly and can shrink at the seam. Underfoot you get the SB comfort advantage, noticeably softer in the heel than a standard Dunk.
