Released on 1 March 2023 and part of New Balance's 9060 line. This release has a suede upper in Black/White. New Balance did not design the 9060 to look like anything else on the road. Yue Wu and James Lee raided the brand's own archive and warped it: sway bars lifted off the 990 and stretched across the entire upper, a diamond outsole pattern pulled from the 860v2, a tongue logo that echoes the 991 lace jewel, all of it filtered through the boastful, visible-tech futurism of the Y2K era. The result reinterprets familiar 99X elements with a striking twist, and when it landed in 2022 it became the model that carried New Balance's 2000s revival past the 327 and the 57/40. The New Balance 9060 Black White arrived in March 2023 at 150 dollars, the panda treatment applied to a shape that had until then mostly shown up in dusty pastels.
Two ways to wear the 9060 Black White. Street: wide-leg black denim or grey cargos stacked over the toe so the sculpted pods peek out, with an oversized hoodie, letting the white N do all the contrast work. Sharper: cropped black trousers, a white tee and an unstructured jacket, where the black upper reads almost formal and only the midsole gives the game away. On sizing it is officially true to size and runs roomy through the toe box, so wide feet stay true while narrow or standard feet can drop half a size for a locked-in fit. For care, respect the pigskin suede: brush it dry, hit it with protector spray before first wear, never machine wash, and keep the white leather N panels clean with a damp cloth.
The 9060 is the shoe that finished New Balance's turn from dad-shoe punchline to fashion default. The brand built credibility for it with a Joe Freshgoods Inside Voices collaboration, then kept the momentum through Bodega's Age of Discovery, Mowalola and Bricks and Wood, and the strongest of those pairs still trade above 300 dollars. Black and white is the version that needs no context. Every rotation has room for a panda colourway, and on a silhouette this loud the monochrome read is what makes it wearable daily instead of occasionally. It has also quietly become a work shoe for people on their feet all day, nurses and stylists among them, which is the highest compliment a chunky sneaker can get.
The base is black mesh, breathable and light, layered with pigskin suede overlays that give the sway bars their depth and stop the shape reading flat. White leather N logos sit front and back with white overlays cutting through the black, and a second N is embroidered on the medial side. The midsole is the whole point: dual-density sculpted pods running ABZORB, which disperses impact sideways, and SBS, a gel that resists compression, stacked to a plush 37.2mm at the heel. A translucent CR device braces the rear for structure. Underneath, a two-tone rubber outsole carries the 860-derived diamond tread, so the traction is functional rather than decorative.
