Released on 6 January 2021 and part of the Heritage Vulc SB line. This release has a suede upper in Summit White/White/Gum Light Brown/Cardinal Red. Nike arrived in skateboarding late and awkwardly. The company started building skate shoes in 1997 and could not get them onto the wall in specialist shops, where DC, Globe and Vans already owned the space. Nike SB launched properly in 2002 with the Dunk Low Pro SB, rebuilt with a padded tongue and collar and Zoom Air insoles so it finally behaved like a skate shoe instead of a basketball shoe in disguise. The Heritage Vulc is what that education looks like once the noise dies down: no hype tooling, no collab story, just the plain vulcanized silhouette skaters have trusted for decades. Construction
The upper mixes suede and canvas, which is the honest skate shoe answer: suede where you need abrasion resistance, canvas where you want the shoe to breathe and break in fast. A reinforced toe cap sits over the exact area that ollies destroy first, so the pair survives past its first month of real use. The sole is vulcanized, meaning the rubber is bonded to the upper rather than cupped around it, and that is why the shoe folds with your foot from day one instead of demanding a break in period. Underneath, a gum rubber outsole gives you the tacky grip that reads well on grip tape and on wet pavement alike. Low profile, flat feel, almost nothing between you and the ground.
