Nike exists because Bill Bowerman was obsessed with weight. He thought American runners were being sold shoes that were too heavy, he ruined a waffle iron proving a lighter sole was possible, and the results became the 1972 Moon Shoe and the 1974 Waffle Trainer. A slide is the logical end of that obsession: the least shoe you can wear and still be wearing something. The ReactX Rejuven8 pushes it further by making the foam bed the entire product, aimed at the hours after effort rather than during it. Medium Olive is the right colour for that job, a muted military green that reads as utility rather than as leisure and never looks like a hospital slipper.
Olive is the most useful colour a slide can be. Recipe one: black shorts and a plain white tee for the gym, the walk home or a terrace, where the slide is pure function and the olive keeps it from looking like gym issue. Recipe two: loose sand coloured linen trousers with a khaki camp shirt, a warm weather build where olive ties into the earth palette instead of interrupting it. This is a hot weather, post workout and travel object, ideal through an Indian summer and unwise on wet tiles because foam gets slippery. Take your usual Nike size and expect a deliberately roomy fit. Rinse with fresh water after sweat, sand or chlorine, and dry in shade.
Recovery footwear moved from the locker room into everyday dress the same way every other Nike category did. Air Max models and Air Force 1s crossed from sport into mainstream American youth dress from the 1980s onward and then into 1990s and 2000s athleisure, and the slide is what happens when athleisure stops dressing up. Nike has the credibility to sell the idea because its foam work is genuinely elite: ZoomX, its altered Pebax formulation, is the lightest and most responsive material in its range and is what powers the Vaporfly. A recovery slide is that same material thinking with none of the stopwatch attached.
With no laces, no counter and no upper to speak of, the foam bed is the product. ReactX names the platform, and what you are judging is the thickness, the softness and the contour under the arch, because that is all there is. Fit is decided by strap width and instep volume rather than by adjustment, so it either suits your foot or it does not, and there is no breaking it in. Medium Olive hides dust, dried mud and sun fade better than any pale slide, which matters on something worn barefoot outdoors. Foam is the vulnerable part: heat stiffens and yellows it, so keep the pair out of a parked car and off hot terraces.
