Released on 20 March 2025 and part of the Mexico 66 line. This release has a leather upper in Crystal Pink/Graphite Grey. This is the women's cut of the Mexico 66 in its TGRS execution, where the crossed Tiger Stripes are the point of the shoe rather than a detail on it. Crystal Pink is a cool, pale, slightly glassy pink rather than a warm blush, which is what keeps it from reading sweet on a silhouette this sharp. The underlying shape has not moved since 1966, when Onitsuka built the Mexico line as a flagship ahead of the 1968 Mexico City Games and gave it the stripe device that became the house mark. Putting a delicate pink on a shoe designed for a stadium is exactly the kind of move that only makes sense after the brand became a fashion label.
Two recipes. First, straight leg pale denim, a white cropped tee and a grey oversized blazer, where the pink stripes are the only softness in a structured fit. Second, a black slip skirt with a fine black knit and sheer socks, using the pink as a deliberate clash against the black. Avoid pairing with other pastels, since Crystal Pink is cool toned and fights warm pinks. Take your usual size in the women's scale and expect a snug forefoot. Spray the leather before first wear, wipe marks off the same day, and clean the sole edge with a soft brush rather than a magic sponge, which dulls the finish.
The brand's relaunch in 2002 turned a dormant sportswear name into a fashion label, and the women's business is where that repositioning has been most visible. In India the brand is sold as premium fashion rather than sportswear, through exclusive outlets carrying footwear, apparel and accessories for men and women, starting with the Palladium mall store in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Colourways like Crystal Pink are made for that kind of floor, where the shoe sits next to clothing rather than next to running gear. The slim silhouette swing of the early 2020s did the rest, making a narrow pink flat feel current rather than nostalgic.
Low profile, slim toed and narrow lasted, with a thin cupsole and stitched stripe overlays across the quarter panel that hold the shoe's shape while carrying the logo. The women's make up runs on its own last, so the proportions are cut slimmer through the heel and forefoot than the unisex version. Crystal Pink on leather is a light, reflective finish that shows dirt at the toe and along the sole edge sooner than any mid tone would, so it rewards a protector spray before first wear. There is very little underfoot cushioning here, which is honest to the original flat, and the shoe flexes with the foot rather than supporting it.
