Released on 3 April 2025 and part of the Adizero Aruku line. This release has a mesh upper in Core Black/Cloud White/Grey One. adizero is adidas's weight obsessed sub brand, the place where the company's founding instinct still shows most clearly. Adolf Dassler built shoes for individual athletic events rather than for categories, working from a laundry room in Herzogenaurach and watching athletes instead of guessing, and adizero applies that same narrowness to the question of how little a shoe can weigh and still work. The Aruku takes that engineering into everyday walking rather than racing, which is a different brief with the same constraint. Black with white and grey keeps it neutral and technical, a three tone arrangement where the darkest zone sits underfoot and the lighter tones lift the midsole and detailing. It is a shoe that looks like performance equipment while being built for ordinary distance.
Utility
Recipe one: black technical joggers with a grey half zip and a light shell, a full commuter uniform where the shoe disappears into the leg and the grey pulls the layers together. Recipe two: dark straight leg denim with a white tee and an unstructured navy jacket, where the black upper keeps a lightweight running silhouette from looking like gym kit. This is a long walking day, travel and airport shoe rather than a training one. Size true with a thumbnail of toe room, since the mesh will not stretch to give it to you later. Wear a thin cushioned sock, since the upper is minimal. Air the insole out regularly, brush grit off the outsole, and never machine wash a foam midsole shoe.
Influence
adidas running credibility runs unbroken from the brothers persuading sprinter Jesse Owens to wear their handmade spikes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, through Boost arriving in the running range in 2013, to the adizero line that still answers to a stopwatch. The company has also never been shy about engineering as spectacle, from the adidas 1 of 2005 marketed as the world's first intelligent shoe with a microprocessor performing five million calculations a second, to springblade replacing foam with splayed blades. An everyday adizero borrows that credibility for a much less dramatic purpose. In Indian cities, where daily distance is walked rather than run, that is arguably the more useful application of it.
Construction
Everything here is subtractive. A lightweight engineered mesh upper with minimal overlays keeps structure only where the foot loads, and the Three Stripes appear as support bands rather than as applied decoration, which is how adidas has used the mark since buying it from Karhu Sports in 1952. A foam midsole handles cushioning across a rolling, walking gait rather than a running strike, so the ride is soft and even rather than propulsive. Black across the upper with white and grey on the midsole and detailing means road grime shows least where it collects most. Expect a shoe that feels almost empty in the hand, a collar with little padding, and a fit that depends on lacing rather than on structure to hold you in place.
