Released on 12 May 2021 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Cloud White/Cloud White. The Forum is adidas's eighties basketball architecture, the shoe that answered the Superstar's low top dominance with a taller, more mechanical build. The Superstar had already made adidas the default on NBA courts, reportedly on the feet of more than 75 percent of players by 1973, and the Forum extended that logic upward: more collar, more support, more visible hardware. The Mid sits between the low and the high, keeping the ankle coverage without the full strapped tower. Cloud White is the purist version, an all white leather upper where nothing competes with the panel lines and the Three Stripes. It is the Forum reduced to shape, which is either the most boring choice or the most confident one depending on how you wear it.
Recipe one: straight leg indigo denim with a navy crewneck and a white tee showing at the collar, the classic white leather shoe job of brightening a dark outfit from the ground up. Recipe two: cream wide trousers with a tan suede jacket, a tonal pale look where the Forum's panel lines give the eye structure. Fit is true to size with the leather softening across the forefoot after a couple of weeks. Reserve these for dry days, because white leather and wet streets do not negotiate. Wipe them down the same day marks appear, use a foam cleaner and a soft brush rather than anything abrasive, and keep the laces fresh, since grey laces age a white shoe faster than the leather does.
Basketball shoes escaped basketball because hip hop took them, not because brands planned it. Run-DMC released My Adidas unpaid, then told a Madison Square Garden crowd to hold their shell toes in the air with an adidas executive watching, and the endorsement that followed was the first between a musical act and an athletic company, a moment Questlove has called hip hop's tipping point. Everything adidas has in street culture descends from that. The Forum inherited it as the eighties silhouette that survived, and a clean white Mid is how it circulates now, less as a reference and more as a default white shoe with better proportions than most.
White leather over a padded collar and tongue is the core of it, with the Three Stripes stitched into the lateral panel where they reinforce the upper as well as brand it, the way adidas has used the mark since acquiring it from Karhu Sports in 1952. The mid cut means a taller quarter panel and more foam around the ankle, which is why a Forum Mid feels locked in compared with a flat soled terrace shoe. A rubber cupsole carries the base. Cloud White is unforgiving in the way all white leather is: every scuff registers, the midsole picks up dirt at the toe first, and the shoe looks either immaculate or lived in with very little middle ground.
