This one did not come out of Herzogenaurach. The CTT, short for Chinese Track Top, was designed in adidas's Shanghai studio for the domestic Chinese market, part of a New Chinese Style direction that reinterprets traditional Chinese tailoring through the brand's sportswear lens. The move is simple and clever: take the Originals track jacket everyone already knows, delete the visible zip, and close it instead with pankou, the knotted fabric buttons that run down a Tangzhuang, under a standing mandarin collar. The reference reaches back through Tang-inspired dress and the ma gua riding jacket. Olive is the restrained option in a lineup that also runs burgundy, deep blue and grey, and it is the colour that makes the jacket read as clothing rather than costume.
Two ways to wear the olive CTT. Streetwear: wide-leg cargos or black track pants, a white tee underneath, Sambas or Gazelles on foot, buttons half fastened so the collar opens up. Dressed up: fully fastened over a fine black turtleneck with pleated wool trousers and a loafer, and the mandarin collar carries it into dinner without a shirt in sight. On sizing, this is an Asia-sized cut on a loose UNITEFIT block, so it sits closer to the body than a Western oversized fit. If you are between sizes or want real drape, take the size up. Care it like a good knit: cold wash inside out, no fabric softener, hang dry away from heat, and never iron over the pankou knots.
The CTT is one of those rare pieces where a brand designed for its domestic market and the rest of the world came knocking anyway. It surfaced around Shanghai Fashion Week, spread through social media, and picked up a serious visibility bump once footballers started wearing it, which is when search traffic outside China went vertical. Scarcity did the rest: limited distribution, inflated resale, and a wave of counterfeits, which is exactly the shape of something people genuinely want. Olive sits at the quiet end of the range and that is why it moves. It is the colourway you can wear through a normal week without the jacket becoming the only thing anyone talks about.
Smooth spacer fabric is the base, a knit with air held between two faces, so the jacket keeps structure and warmth without the bulk of a padded layer. That is why the shoulders sit where you put them instead of collapsing through the day. The cut is loose and built on adidas's UNITEFIT gender-neutral sizing, which is why the same piece hangs correctly across very different bodies. Signature 3-Stripes run down the sleeves, so the sportswear DNA stays legible while the mandarin collar and knot closures do the talking. The pankou buttons fasten in a vertical run up the centre front, and they change how you wear it: half fastened it drapes open, fully closed it reads almost formal.
