Designed by Horst Dassler and released on 15 March 2021 as part of the Stan Smith line. This release has the Cloud White/Collegiate Navy/Off-White colourway. The Stan Smith is the shoe adidas built by removing things: no contrast stripes, just three rows of perforations through the sidewall, a smooth leather upper and a coloured heel tab to tell you which version you are looking at. That reduction is why it became, alongside the Superstar, the base layer of European terrace and casual dressing and one of the pillars of adidas Originals, the division the Trefoil has marked since it was designed in 1971 for the Munich Olympics. White with Collegiate Navy is the second most recognisable way to buy it, the version people choose when the green pair feels too obvious. Style code FX5501. Utility

Construction
The perforated stripes are the whole design decision. adidas bought the Three Stripes from Karhu Sports in 1952 and stitched them on as structural reinforcement, and the Stan Smith is the one silhouette where the mark is punched into the leather instead, which is why the shoe reads as plain from a distance and as an adidas from arm's length. A smooth leather upper sits on a thin rubber cupsole with a flat, low profile, so there is no cushioning story to tell. Navy appears on the heel tab and the branding.
