Released on 3 August 2023 and part of the Yeezy 450 Slide line. This release has a eva upper in Cream/Cream/Cream. The 450 Slide takes the strangest silhouette in the catalogue and strips it back to an open shoe. Where the standard Slide from December 2019 was a plain moulded band, this one carries the clawed, splayed geometry of the 450, so the sole reaches up and around the foot in fingers rather than sitting flat beneath it. Cream keeps it in the pale material register the line has always favoured, alongside Oxford Tan and Mist, which is the right choice for a shape this unusual: a neutral tone lets you read the structure instead of the colour. Nothing on it carries a logo, so the geometry is the identification.
A pale sculptural slide wants a clean, simple outfit. Recipe one: white linen shorts and a loose oversized shirt in stone, a summer fit where the shoe is the only piece with structure to it. Recipe two: black cropped trousers and a black tank, where the cream reads as a deliberate contrast at the floor rather than an accident. A plain white crew sock is the safest styling with the clawed sole; barefoot gives better grip. These are for warm weather, poolside and short distances only. Cream foam greys quickly, so rinse with lukewarm water and a soft brush regularly, dry in shade and keep them away from heat, which permanently warps the mould.
Open moulded footwear is the idea this label pushed furthest into the mainstream. The Foam Runner and the Slide crossed out of sneaker culture into general fashion and were imitated across the mass market until the shape became a category of its own, and the 450 Slide is the most sculptural extension of that thinking. It came from a release model of limited quantities, bots, queues and resale that the brand made normal. adidas terminated the partnership on 25 October 2022 following antisemitic public remarks by founder Kanye West, then sold through remaining stock, so late models like this had very short commercial lives.
This is moulded construction, formed as a single body of foam with the clawed sole structure and the footbed as one continuous object rather than assembled parts. Those fingers are structural, holding the foot laterally where a plain slide relies only on the band, and they are what give the model its grip on the sides of the foot. The footbed is contoured and textured underfoot, and the underside is ridged for traction. With no closure of any kind, fit comes entirely from the mould, so foot volume matters more than length. Cream pigment runs through the material, so scuffs dull rather than chip.
