Origin
Designed by Kanye West and released on 17 August 2023 as part of the Yeezy Boost 350 line. This release has a primeknit upper in Hyperspace/Hyperspace/Hyperspace. Hyperspace is the 350 V2 in a soft grey green, and it belongs to the small run of colourways where the name reaches for something atmospheric instead of geological. Most of the line was named after ground and material, Pirate Black, Oxford Tan, Turtle Dove, Moonrock, Desert Rat. Hyperspace goes the other way, describing motion and distance, and the colour matches: a hazy, desaturated tone that shifts between grey, sage and blue depending on the light. The V2 launched on 24 September 2016 and by this point had become the silhouette people could identify from across a street with no logo on it anywhere, which is exactly what the design was built to achieve.
Utility
Hyperspace is quiet enough to disappear into almost anything, which is its strength. Recipe one: olive wide leg trousers and a cream heavy tee, a soft military palette where the shoe closes the tonal run at the floor. Recipe two: mid grey tailored sweatpants and a white shirt worn loose, a smart casual fit that stays relaxed because the shoe is knit rather than leather. It suits daytime, offices with loose dress codes and travel. Take your true size and let Primeknit soften into your foot. Muted green greys show dust fast, so brush after each wear. Clean marks with cold water and a soft brush immediately, and keep the Boost midsole away from bleach based whiteners, which yellow it.
Influence
Desaturated greens and greys are the part of this palette that mass market brands lifted most directly, because they made technical looking footwear acceptable in ordinary wardrobes. The 350 V2 sat at the centre of that shift and made the sneaker drop into a mainstream cultural event, driving queue culture, bot buying and a resale market that quoted prices like a ticker. At its height the line generated roughly two billion dollars a year for adidas. That ended on 25 October 2022 when adidas terminated the partnership after antisemitic public remarks by founder Kanye West, and supply has been finite since, drawn from remaining stock and resale.
Construction
The upper is Primeknit, machine knitted as one continuous piece with no cut and sewn panels, which is why the tone appears to shift as the knit tightens over the midfoot and loosens toward the collar. On a desaturated colour like this, that density change is the main visual event on the shoe. Below sits adidas Boost, the expanded TPU pellet midsole responsible for the rebound and the speckled sidewall texture, with rubber at the ground contact points. Entry is through the knit collar with a heel pull tab. No visible logo appears anywhere, so the silhouette and the knit texture are the whole identity of the shoe.
