Designed by Peter Moore and released on 18 December 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has the Black/Archaeo Brown/Dark Chocolate colourway. Crafted names the intent: a High OG built to foreground materials and finishing rather than a colour story. It is a fair use of the model, because the 1's construction was always visible. Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore drew a shoe made of separate stitched panels, and everything the brand has done since, from Tinker Hatfield's material codes on the Air Jordan 3 to patent leather on the 11, has treated surface as a place to say something. A Crafted edition takes that logic to its conclusion and makes the make of the shoe the subject. The proportions remain the original ones, tall collar, wide Swoosh, Wings logo on the ankle.
Premium finishing rewards adult clothing. Wear it with pleated wool trousers and a fine gauge knit, letting the shoe do the work a good boot would. Second option: dark selvedge denim with a leather jacket, where the materials talk to each other. Avoid athletic clothing entirely; a Crafted pair with track pants wastes what you paid for. Cuff or crop the hem so the panels are visible. Use a shoe tree to keep the vamp from folding hard, condition the leather sparingly, and keep these for dry days, since premium finishes water mark far more visibly than standard sneaker leather.
The brand's material ambition was formalised by its work outside sport. Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS all took the 1 apart and put it back together, and that traffic made construction itself a selling point rather than a spec. A Crafted release is Jordan Brand answering in house. Beneath it sits a business whose reported 2022 revenue for Nike was about 5.1 billion dollars, with a reported 150 to 256 million dollars flowing to Michael Jordan under the royalty arrangement he negotiated when he signed in 1984.
This is a shoe to inspect closely rather than glance at. Look at panel edges, stitch density and how the finish varies between toe cap, eyestay, quarter and collar, because that variation is what you are buying. The collar is padded and cut above the ankle bone. Underfoot is a flat rubber cupsole with no visible cushioning window, since Nike Air came into the line at the Air Jordan 2, so comfort here is about upper fit and lacing rather than foam. Premium finishes need gentler care than standard leather: brush dry, clean with a pH neutral product, and avoid soaking, which can darken treated panels unevenly.
