Black Toe is one of the Jordan 1's founding blocking arrangements, a three colour split that puts a dark toe against a lighter quarter and lets the panel seams do the work of a graphic. It comes from the era when the first shoe reached the public on 1 April 1985 and colour placement was the whole design language, since the pattern itself never changed. Starfish shifts that arrangement into a warmer register, taking the familiar geometry and swapping the accent for something softer than the original red. On a Mid, which sits between the Low's casual read and the High's structure, that warmth is the difference between a sports reference and a wearable everyday shoe.
Warm accents suit warm neutrals. Wear this with tan or brown carpenter trousers and a white tee so the Starfish tone links to the rest of the outfit, or with black jeans and a cream knit if you want the accent isolated and sharp. The Mid's collar sits at an awkward height under tapered hems, so either cuff clear of it or wear a straight leg that falls just to the collar top. Take your usual Jordan 1 size. Wipe the leather with a damp cloth and dry immediately, protect the pale panels before first wear, avoid puddles since the midsole paint stains, and store the shoes with the collars supported.
The Chicago palette of red, black and white now functions as brand colouring in its own right, and Black Toe is the arrangement that made that palette legible as a system rather than as a team kit. The outsole is rubber with the forefoot pivot circle. Because the Mid's collar is less structured, it breaks in faster than a High and creases at the ankle rather than at the fold.
