Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 10 September 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 3 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Fire Red/Cement Grey/Black. The Air Jordan III is the hinge of the whole line. Nike handed the series to Tinker Hatfield, and from the III onward a basketball shoe became a design series with its own vocabulary: this is the model that introduced the elephant print and put the Jumpman on the tongue, two decisions that still define what a Jordan looks like. Fire Red is the III wearing the brightest reading of the brand's red, black and white palette, a hot red against white with the grey cracked print doing the contrast work. It is the model where the brand's most recognisable material code was born, in the colour family the brand is best known for.
Fire Red on white wants a clean, high contrast outfit. Raw or dark indigo denim with a white tee and a black jacket keeps the shoe as the only warm element. The alternative is tonal grey, grey trousers with a grey knit, which lets the elephant print sit in the same family as the clothing while the red accents pop. Avoid other reds and avoid heavy prints, since the elephant panel is already a pattern. The III has a substantial midsole and suits straight leg hems. Brush the print gently rather than scrubbing, clean the white leather with foam, and keep the pair away from prolonged heat and sun.
Nike's earliest Air Jordan advertising was directed by Spike Lee, who also played Mars Blackmon on screen opposite Jordan, and that campaign put the shoes into film language rather than sports marketing. The III belongs to that era of the brand's storytelling, the point at which the line proved it could survive as design rather than as endorsement. Elephant print became the proof: a grey cracked pattern that now works as a brand signature on its own, applied across models, apparel and collaborations. Very few sports brands own a texture. Jordan owns one, and it started on this shoe.
White leather carries the body with fire red accents, and the elephant print, the grey cracked pattern introduced on this model, sits on the toe and heel wraps where it has always lived. That print is the single most recognisable Jordan material code and now signals the brand on its own without a logo. The Jumpman occupies the tongue, another III innovation. Nike Air cushioning runs through the line from the Air Jordan II onward. Style code DN3707 160. No stack heights or foam formulations are published, and retro polyurethane midsoles degrade over time by hydrolysis with the exact material undisclosed, so long storage is the real enemy here.
