Black Cement is a colourway with a specific ancestry: cement refers to the grey cracked elephant print that Tinker Hatfield introduced on the Air Jordan III, the most recognisable material code the brand owns and one that now signals Jordan on its own without a logo. The Hydro line translates a numbered model into a slide, and this is the 4 rendered that way in grade school sizing. It is the least serious object the brand makes carrying one of its most serious references, which is a fair summary of what Jordan Brand became after 1997, when the line was reorganised as a full Nike division with accessories and apparel of its own.
