Released on 18 February 2025 and part of the Jordan Luka 3 line. This release has a textile upper in Purple Comet/Midnight Navy/Hydrogen Blue/Hot Punch. Luka Doncic is one of Jordan Brand's signature NBA athletes, which places him in a very short line that begins with the player the whole division is named after. Purple Comet is the third shoe in his signature series, and signature shoes are the reason this brand exists at all: Nike signed Michael Jordan on 26 October 1984 because it was losing basketball to Converse and adidas and needed a face of its own, and gave him a royalty on sales, an unusual term at the time. That model of building a shoe around one player rather than one sport produced a division that generated about 5.1 billion dollars in 2022. The Luka line is that logic still running.
Purple is a difficult colour off court, so commit or avoid. First on court: proper basketball socks, a fitted short, and these kept for indoor hardwood only, which is where the traction pattern is designed to work. Second off court: full black, black shorts or track pants and a black tee, letting the purple function as deliberate colour rather than accidental brightness. Do not mix with other saturated colours. Performance uppers are usually engineered textiles, which clean easily with foam and a soft brush but do not tolerate solvent or heat. Air them out after every session, never machine wash, and replace them when the outsole pattern flattens rather than when they look worn.
Jordan Brand's current relevance rests on its signature athletes: Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum and Zion Williamson carry the basketball line, with Russell Westbrook, Trae Young and Chris Paul signed alongside them. That roster does the same job Jordan himself did in 1984, attaching a shoe to a personality rather than to a category. The brand reached beyond the sport long ago, into the NFL with Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott, MLB with Aaron Judge and Derek Jeter, and the WNBA with Maya Moore and Jordin Canada, and out to Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. A bright signature model is where all of that marketing energy is aimed on any given season.
This is a performance basketball shoe, so read it by intent rather than by decoration. The signature line has a long record of building for the demands of the position: carbon fibre shank plates for torsional stiffness, Kevlar reinforced laces and uppers on the Air Jordan 15, Flyknit uppers from the 30 onward and a laceless FastFit system on the 33. Those are the engineering directions the brand has pursued for guards and forwards, and a modern signature model is designed inside that tradition. Purple Comet is a colourway built to be visible under arena lighting, which also makes it visible on the street. Court shoes wear down fastest at the outsole edge under a lateral cut, so save these for indoor surfaces.
