Origin
Released on 15 September 2022 and part of the Jordan Max Aura line. This release has a synthetic upper in White/University Red/Black. Max Aura is the line that borrows the visual language of the archive and rebuilds it as a wearable performance shoe, and the fourth version in grade school sizing is where that idea reaches the people the brand actually needs next. White, black and University Red is the founding palette: Chicago red, black and white have worked as brand colours in themselves since the Bulls years, which is why this combination reads as Jordan even before you find the Jumpman. Nike signed a rookie in October 1984 precisely because it wanted a young face rather than an established one, and a GS colourway in the original colours is that strategy still running, one generation down.
Utility
Keep the outfit as clean as the shoe. Recipe one: black basketball shorts, a white tee, and white crew socks pulled to mid calf, which is the straightest read of the palette and works for practice or the school yard. Recipe two: dark indigo jeans, a red hoodie under a black puffer, and the shoe closes the loop on both colours. Construction
GS means grade school sizing, so the last is smaller and the build lighter than the adult equivalent, and the shoe is meant to be run in rather than displayed. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the Air Jordan II, and Max in the name points at that visible air lineage rather than at a retro shell. White as the base colour is the honest trade off: it looks sharpest on day one and it is the hardest finish to keep, especially on a kid. Red on white shows creasing less than black on white does. Lace through every eyelet for sport use, since a partially laced performance shoe lets the heel lift and blisters follow.
