Alexandre Mattiussi spent years designing for Dior Homme, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs before deciding that what he actually wanted to make was clothes his own friends would wear. He founded AMI in 2011, opened the first Paris boutique the following year and took the ANDAM prize soon after. The name is his initials plus the last letter of his surname, and it lands on the French word for friend, which is the whole brief in three letters. The Ami de Coeur came later: a heart resting on a letter A, lifted straight from the sign-off Mattiussi had been scribbling at the end of notes to friends since childhood. It became the house signature and turned a private gesture into one of the most recognisable marks in French fashion. This tee is that mark at full size, no tailoring required.

Recent campaigns have been fronted by Dylan O'Brien and Alex Consani, which tells you where the brand is aiming. The body is 100% organic cotton jersey carrying GOTS certification, which means the fibre is traced and the processing is audited rather than just described as sustainable. The Ami de Coeur lands at the chest as a patch, the heart and letter A rendered large and clean-edged, sitting on the jersey with real dimension instead of a printed film that will crack after a summer. The neckline is a ribbed crew that holds its shape through repeat washes rather than going wavy, and there is embroidered branding at the back of the neck so the piece still identifies itself when the front is covered. Short set sleeves, a straight hem you can wear tucked or loose, classic fit. Nothing here is trying to be a silhouette experiment.
