AMI started in 2011, when Alexandre Mattiussi left the couture machine to build clothes he could actually afford. He had come through Dior's 30 Montaigne menswear line, then Givenchy as first assistant on menswear, then Marc Jacobs, where he was designing cashmere he could not buy himself. Ami means friend in French and doubles as his initials, and the brand runs on exactly that: Parisian clothing made for people you know rather than for a runway. The first Paris boutique opened in 2012 and the ANDAM prize followed in 2013. Then in 2017 came the Ami de Coeur, the ace-of-hearts mark that plays on Mattiussi's own monogram, and a quiet tailoring label became a logo everyone could read across a room. This black polo, reference BFUPL001.760, is that mark at its most wearable.
Two ways to run the AMI Paris organic cotton polo. One: tucked into pleated cream or stone trousers with a leather belt and loafers, the red heart your only accent, which handles dinners, openings and any dress code that says smart casual without saying it. Two: untucked over straight black denim with white low-top sneakers, sleeves left alone. Sizing is the real question when you buy an AMI Paris polo online in India: men take their normal size, women size down one, and because the cut is trim through the chest and armholes, anyone who likes room should go up. Care is strict with organic cotton piqué. Machine wash at 30 degrees on gentle, never tumble dry, never dry clean, cool iron only, and dry it flat so the collar and shoulders keep their line.
The Ami de Coeur did something rare for a Paris house: it made a luxury logo feel friendly. Launched in 2017, the ace-of-hearts became the centre of AMI's identity quickly enough that Le Monde described it as the success story of a fashion logo, and it carried the label from a Parisian menswear name into sixty-plus stores across New York, China and Japan. On black piqué it works harder still. To people who know the mark it reads as quiet money; to people who do not, it is simply a clean black polo, and that double life is the entire appeal. It lands precisely in the moment where streetwear graphics stop working for you and full tailoring is still too much.
The body is organic cotton piqué, GOTS certified, and the weave is the point: piqué has structure, so it holds shape through a full day and moves air instead of clinging the way jersey does. The collar is a true shirt collar that stands instead of folding over after a few washes, and the half placket closes on mother-of-pearl buttons that catch light rather than reading as plastic. The Ami de Coeur sits in red on the left chest, the only colour anywhere on the piece, with a tonal Ami embroidery tucked under the back neckline for whoever is paying attention. It is made in Portugal, and at size medium the body runs roughly 26.5 inches, long enough to tuck cleanly or hang straight.
