Designed by Peter Moore and released on 25 June 2021 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/Green Glow/Sunset Pulse. Candy is a Dunk Low that treats the model's panel structure as a sweet shop shelf, running soft pastel blocks against a clean base so no two overlays read the same. That freedom is built into the shoe. The Dunk arrived in the mid 1980s as a college basketball model whose whole selling point was that its panels could be repainted for any programme, and every multicolour release since is that brief taken somewhere Nike's original designers did not plan for. The company had form for this. Bill Bowerman poured rubber into a waffle iron to get a lighter sole, and the house that grew out of that in Eugene has never treated its own designs as finished objects. Candy is the Dunk being played with rather than preserved.
Multi pastel uppers need a quiet outfit. Wear them with white or ecru wide leg trousers, a plain white tee and nothing else patterned, so the shoe is the whole colour story. Alternatively, pick the single strongest pastel in the pair and echo it in one item, a knit or a cap, then keep everything else grey or black. This is a flat all day sneaker for walking, travel and casual wear rather than sport, and it fits true to size. Pale leather scuffs visibly, so keep a magic sponge for the midsole and a soft cloth with leather cleaner for the panels. Clean dye transfer off pastel leather immediately, because it sets deeper the longer it sits.
The Dunk's second act came through skateboarding and then spread into general fashion, and the pastel and multicolour releases are the clearest evidence of how far it travelled from the hardwood. Nike's standing to do that came from basketball itself: the 1984 Michael Jordan signing and the Spike Lee directed Mars Blackmon advertising made the brand the default on court, and through that Air Jordans, Air Force 1s and Air Max models became fixtures in urban and hip hop dress before moving into mainstream youth style. A candy coloured Dunk is a shoe that can be lighthearted because the model beneath it has nothing left to prove.
Leather panels in contrasting pastel tones sit over a pale base, and because the Dunk's overlays are cut as distinct pieces, each colour holds its own edge instead of blending. The Swoosh, toe cap, eyestay and heel each become a separate colour decision. Underneath is the low profile foam midsole and pivot circle rubber outsole that keep the Dunk flat, wide and close to the ground, which is why it feels direct rather than cushioned. There is no visible Air unit in this build. Padding sits at the collar and tongue only. Sizing runs true with a snug midfoot that opens up once the leather relaxes, usually inside two weeks of regular wear.
