Designed by Peter Moore and released on 30 May 2022 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a synthetic upper. Copy Paste is a joke about the Dunk itself. No shoe has been recoloured, reissued and imitated more, and Nike responding with a release named after the keyboard shortcut for duplication is the brand grinning at its own catalogue. The design premise is repetition made visible: the same shoe, reproduced, with the artefacts of reproduction left in rather than cleaned up. Style code DQ5015 063 is how you pin it down. It fits Nike's long habit of turning its own machinery into content, the way the Swoosh went from a student's drawing in June 1971 to a mark so familiar that the company can play games with it and still be understood instantly.
Keep the styling deadpan so the concept does the talking. Wear it with straight leg black denim and a plain grey sweatshirt, or with wide cotton trousers and an oversized shirt worn open over a tee, letting the shoe be the only thing anyone asks about. This is a casual and street shoe, not an office one. Dunk Lows run long for many feet, so try half a size down if you are between sizes, and use a flat lace tied loosely for the correct slouch. Clean with a soft brush and mild soap, avoid soaking any printed or treated panel, and let it dry at room temperature so the finish does not lift.
Nike understands duplication because it has been on both sides of it. From the 1980s its shoes became status symbols in urban and hip hop fashion, which made them the most copied objects in footwear, and the brand's own instinct has always been to reissue rather than retire. Just Do It, written by Dan Wieden in 1988 and first aired on 1 July that year with 80 year old runner Walt Stack, was named a top five slogan of the twentieth century by Advertising Age and now sits in the Smithsonian, which is what happens when a phrase gets repeated enough. A shoe about copying is Nike commenting on the mechanism that built it.
This is standard Dunk Low architecture, which is a low cut leather court shoe with overlay panels, a flat rubber outsole and a shape that has barely changed because it did not need to. The interest sits in the finishing rather than the pattern: a release built around the idea of duplication puts its effort into surface treatment and print, so look at the panels rather than the silhouette. What it means for you is a shoe that behaves like any other Dunk Low on foot, flat and firm rather than cushioned, with a break in period across the toe box. Nike's outsole thinking still descends from Bowerman's waffle iron, the founding piece of company engineering.
