Designed by Peter Moore and released on 9 July 2022 as part of Nike's Dunk SB line. This release has a suede upper in Burgundy Crush/Team Red. In 1972 Blue Ribbon Sports ended its relationship with Onitsuka Tiger and started making shoes under its own name, a name employee Jeff Johnson had come up with. Everything Nike does in house rather than through a collaborator descends from that decision, and the Fruity Pack is a good example of the company amusing itself without an outside partner. Cherry is the loudest entry, a saturated red run on the Dunk Low Pro SB, the skate spec rather than the lifestyle one. Fruit as a colour brief is not a concept so much as a licence to go bright, and the Dunk Low takes bright better than almost any silhouette Nike owns because its panel blocking turns a single colour into a graphic.
Saturated red demands restraint everywhere else. Recipe one: black jeans, a white tee and a black jacket, so the shoe is the only colour and the outfit reads deliberate rather than accidental. Recipe two: light grey sweatpants and a cream hoodie, where the red sits as a warm punctuation mark against a soft palette. Avoid pairing with brown or burgundy, which fight the tone. This is a skate park and weekend shoe with genuine board utility given the Pro padding, and it holds up to daily wear better than a lifestyle Dunk. Take your usual Dunk size. Brush dry, use a mild foam cleaner, and never soak red panels because the dye will migrate onto the midsole.
Nike SB exists because skateboarding refused to be sold to for years, and the line has spent its life proving it understands the room. Sometimes it has misread it: the 2005 use of Minor Threat's album art brought a public rebuke from Ian MacKaye and an apology from Nike. A house designed pack like this one avoids that trap entirely, which is why it can be playful. Set it against the broader story, where Nike moved to its Beaverton headquarters in 1990 and opened the first Niketown in downtown Portland the same year, and a red skate shoe is the company remembering it started small and weird.
The Pro SB build is the important part of the name. It carries the heavier tongue and collar padding skateboarding demands, a wide flat forefoot that keeps the board feel honest, and a rubber tread descended from the outsole Bill Bowerman first pressed out of a waffle iron chasing grip. A red this saturated behaves differently to a pastel: it holds its intensity through wear, but it transfers colour if it gets properly soaked, so keep the pair out of standing water. Creasing at the toe box shows as a dark line rather than a pale one on red, which is more forgiving. The midsole is where age will show first, so keep it clean if you want the pair to keep looking new.
