Released on 7 June 2025 and part of Nike's Dunk SB line. This release has a suede upper in Court Purple/White/Black/Lagoon Pulse. Nike SB exists because skateboarders had already chosen the Dunk before Nike built anything for them, and the SB line's whole method has been to hand the silhouette to people inside the culture rather than design at them. This pair carries Hayley Wilson's name in the product title as the collaborator, and Court Purple is the anchor colour, a tone that has run through Dunk history since the shoe's college colour origins. Purple on a Dunk is not a neutral choice: it is one of the shades that made the shape collectible in the first place. Setting a rider's collaboration on that colour is a way of putting a new name into an established sequence rather than starting a fresh one, which is how SB has always handled its signature releases.
First recipe: loose faded black jeans, a white long sleeve under a graphic tee and a black beanie, the skate uniform the shoe was built for, with Court Purple as the only colour in the frame. Second recipe: light grey sweatpants with a cream hoodie, where purple against soft neutrals reads intentional rather than sporty. Purple is easiest with black, grey, cream and washed denim, and hardest with navy and brown. SB Dunks fit slightly snugger than standard Dunks because of the added collar and tongue padding, so consider your usual size with thinner socks. If you actually skate them, expect the toe panel to go first, and rotate pairs rather than trying to clean the wear off.
Nike SB's relationship with subculture has been the most honest and the most awkward part of the company's cultural record. Its 2005 appropriation of Minor Threat's album art for a tour flyer drew a public rebuke from Ian MacKaye and an apology from Nike, a moment that forced the line to take the community it borrowed from more seriously. Rider led collaborations are the long term answer to that: the shoe is credited to the person who skates it. Style code HJ0513 500 sits in the SB Dunk Low family, which differs from a standard Dunk in the places that matter to a skater: a padded, fatter tongue, extra collar cushioning and a Zoom Air style insole setup for impact, on the same low cut panelled upper and cupsole. That padding is why SB Dunks feel plusher than their retro siblings despite looking almost identical. The Court Purple execution uses colour to separate the panels rather than material contrast, so the eye reads the shape cleanly. Nike's underlying outsole logic here goes back to Bowerman pouring rubber into a waffle iron: a patterned tread that grips in several directions at once, which on a board matters as much as it did on a track.
