Designed by Peter Moore and part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Medium Grey/White. A backless Jordan 1 built for golf is the least likely object in the brand's catalogue and one of the most logical. Shadow is a heritage grey and black arrangement from the model's early colour language, chosen here for a shoe you put on after a round rather than during one. The brand has been expanding outside basketball for years, becoming sole equipment provider to the Michigan Wolverines football programme in 2016 and sponsoring Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, and golf brought with it a set of adjacent products: the clubhouse shoe, the walk to the car, the drive home. This mule is the Jordan 1 built for those twenty minutes.
Wear it the way it was designed: as the shoe you change into, with golf trousers or shorts and a polo, or at home with loose sweatpants where the open heel is the entire point. Off the course, it works with wide leg trousers cropped above the ankle and a plain tee in warm weather, but never with anything that requires you to walk quickly. Size carefully, since a mule with no heel counter needs to be closer to exact than a laced shoe does. Brush dust off after each use, wipe the footbed occasionally since a backless shoe collects more than a closed one, and keep them dry.
Golf adjacent Jordan product exists because the brand became a full lifestyle business rather than a basketball line, a shift that formally began when it was made a standalone Nike division in 1997. Shadow itself belongs to the model's earliest colour vocabulary, from the era when the palette was doing all the design work because the pattern never changed. Putting a heritage grey on a slip on for a sport with its own strict conventions is the kind of move that only reads as natural now, after four decades of the Jordan 1 turning up somewhere it was not originally invited.
A mule removes the heel counter entirely, so the shoe holds on through the throat and the lacing rather than around the ankle. That changes the fit logic completely: you want the lace tension snug enough that your foot does not slide forward on a downhill, and you should expect no lateral support at all, which is why this is not a shoe to play or train in. The upper keeps the Jordan 1's blocked panel look across the toe and quarter with a stitched Swoosh. Grey and black hide course dust well. Treat the open heel as the defining feature: it makes the shoe convenient and it makes it fragile at the collar edge.
