Released on 8 October 2023 and part of the LeBron Witness 8 line. This release has a mesh upper in White/Light Smoke Grey/Black. White with light grey is the plainest a basketball shoe gets, and the Witness line is the plainest part of a signature athlete's range: the version built to be bought by people who play rather than by people who collect. LeBron James is one of Nike's signature athletes and endorsers, part of a structure the company invented when it signed Michael Jordan in 1984 and found that an athlete could carry an entire product family. EP in the name denotes an engineered execution intended for specific regional fits. In white and grey, the shoe is designed to be worn under a uniform rather than to be photographed.
Two ways. First, actually play in it: lace fully, wear a cushioned basketball sock, keep it indoors and wipe the outsole before each session, because dust is the single biggest cause of lost traction. Second, off court with grey sweat shorts and a white tee in summer, since a white and grey basketball shoe reads clean rather than technical. Team level basketball shoes fit true with a snug midfoot, so size normally and expect little stretch. Air them out between sessions because trapped moisture degrades cushioning. Clean the white with mild soap and a soft brush, and never put a structured court shoe through a washing machine.
Nike's grip on basketball is both cultural and contractual. A basketball shoe with a large athlete's name on it has to handle a lot of force, which is why the build is about containment before it is about cushioning. Expect a structured midfoot to stop the foot shifting during cuts, a reinforced heel and an outsole pattern cut for grip on a wooden floor. Nike Air, pressurised gas sealed into the midsole, supplies the impact protection. A white and light grey execution shows scuffing from court dust faster than a dark one, which is the trade for looking clean off the floor.
