Released on 17 January 2023 and part of the Mexico 66 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Blue. Kihachiro Onitsuka built this shoe in 1966 for athletes heading to the Mexico City Olympics, and it became the model that gave Onitsuka Tiger its signature. The brand's own product page still describes it as a reconstruction of training shoes developed in 1966 for an international sports event. It was the first outing for the curved criss-cross Tiger Stripes, laid onto a low, flat trainer developed from the earlier Limber Up. The Mexico 66 then went quiet for decades until Onitsuka Tiger revived it in the 2000s, and it has not left since. The White Blue, article number 1183C102-100, is the version sitting closest to the original intent: white leather, blue stripes, nothing extra. The White Blue works because it behaves like a white sneaker with a single accent. Straight-leg blue jeans, a white oxford untucked and a navy overshirt is the obvious, correct answer. For the sharper version, cream or stone wide-leg trousers with a grey knit polo, letting the blue stripe be the only colour in play. On sizing, the Mexico 66 is narrow and low volume with a slim toe box and it runs long: plenty of people take half a size down for a clean fit, while wide feet should stay true to size or go half up, so try a pair before you buy the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 White Blue in India. The White Blue is the quiet member of that family, the pair you wear when you want the silhouette without the costume, and the colourway that reads closest to the 1966 original.
Fine leather makes up the upper, which is why this pair creases into character instead of collapsing, and why it cleans up with a soft brush and a damp cloth. The Onitsuka Tiger Stripes curve down each side, the detail that debuted on this very model, alongside two archive carryovers: the cross part at the heel and the heel flap, arranged with modern balance rather than copied wholesale. Inside sits an OrthoLite sockliner, the single biggest upgrade over the 1966 original, putting real cushioning under a silhouette that has always run thin and flat underfoot. Natural leather and synthetic suede sit together in the build, so expect some colour movement if the shoe gets properly wet. Unisex sizing runs US 4 through 14.
