Released on 10 November 2020 and part of New Balance's 327 line. This release has a denim upper. The 327 is the shape New Balance drew when it wanted to reference its own 1970s running archive without rebuilding a specific model, all oversized N, exaggerated toe spring and a flat retro profile. Putting Levi's on it in grey is a denim brand meeting a shoe brand on the most neutral possible ground, which is a sensible way to do it, since grey is this company's home colour and the surface its reputation was built on. The company itself began in 1906 near Boston as an arch support business and has been privately held under Jim Davis since 1972, and that independence is why partnerships here tend to be design led rather than licensing led. Utility
Two ways to wear it. Straight leg raw denim with a white tee and a grey overshirt is the obvious pairing and the right one, since the shoe is designed for exactly that hem and that palette. Underneath, the shape is a flat retro runner rather than a cushioned modern one, so it sits close to the ground. This house has separated structural support from shock absorption since ENCAP arrived with the 995 in 1986, and its retro platforms trade some of that bulk for a lower, more direct feel.
