New Balance 550 White Surf

Released on 24 June 2022 and part of New Balance's 550 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Surf. The 550 works because it never tried to be futuristic. It is a court shoe from an older chapter of New Balance basketball, built from simple panels and a clean block N, and its return proves that the least designed shoes tend to age best. White Surf is the summer reading of it. A white base keeps the silhouette bright and open, and surf, a clear cool blue, lands on the overlays and the logo like a stripe on a sailing kit. It is a colourway with a specific season and a specific climate in mind, and it turns a hardwood shoe into something that makes more sense on a coastline than in a gym.
