Designed by Bruce Kilgore and part of Nike's Air Force 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Sail/Opti Yellow/Noble Green. Noble Green is a deep, slightly greyed forest tone, and on the Air Force 1 07 LV8 it does something the standard white pair cannot: it makes the shoe look expensive rather than ubiquitous. LV8 means an elevated make up with extra material or detail work over the base 07. The Air Force 1 has been public property since the 1980s, when it moved from the court into urban and hip hop fashion and then into mainstream American youth dress, and richer colourways are how Nike keeps a mass shoe interesting to people who already own three pairs. Colour is the only variable left when the shape is untouchable.
Two ways to wear it. Charcoal or grey wool trousers with a black knit, where the green reads as a considered alternative to a black shoe and nobody clocks it as a basketball silhouette. Or casual: raw denim, a cream sweatshirt and a tan jacket, letting the earth tones sit together. It handles evening and smart casual better than most Air Force 1 colourways. Size half down on narrow feet since the last runs long. Condition the leather every few months, brush any nubuck panels dry rather than wet, keep it out of prolonged sun to protect the dye, and clean the white midsole separately with a foam cleaner.
Nike's cultural weight came through basketball after signing Michael Jordan in 1984 and the Spike Lee directed Mars Blackmon advertising, and the Air Force 1 carried it outward into everyday dress from the 1980s onward, returning through 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure looks. Dark tonal versions are how the shoe entered offices and evenings, wardrobes that white sneakers struggle to reach. They read as leather footwear first and sportswear second, which is the whole trick of an elevated make up on a mass silhouette.
Panelled leather upper on the Air Force 1 Low last, perforated toe box, padded collar, stitched Swoosh overlay, foam midsole with Nike Air encapsulated inside, and the pivot circle rubber outsole. An LV8 build typically layers material changes across the upper, so texture shifts between panels are the point rather than a defect. Dark green leather hides scuffing far better than white and reads almost black under artificial light, which widens where the shoe can be worn. The flip side is that dye can fade at the flex crease under sustained sun, so conditioning is worth doing. Underfoot the experience is unchanged: firm, flat and stable, with cushioning sealed out of sight.
