The Killshot began life as a court shoe and survived as a wardrobe staple, which is a very Nike kind of second act. The brand's own beginnings were similarly sideways: Blue Ribbon Sports sold about 1,300 pairs of Japanese running shoes for roughly 8,000 dollars in its first year, opened a first store in Santa Monica in 1966, and only launched its own line under the Nike name after the Onitsuka Tiger relationship ended in 1972. This Killshot 2 sits in the Leather Premium tier of the Tiempo Pack, and Metallic Cool Grey is the colourway that gives an old tennis outline a cold, low shine instead of the usual bone and gum warmth. It is the plainest silhouette in the range, which is exactly why it keeps returning.
Metallic Cool Grey is a neutral that leans cold, so build cold. Recipe one: raw indigo straight leg denim with a white oxford shirt untucked and a navy overshirt, the grey working as the shadow tone rather than a highlight. Recipe two: charcoal wool trousers cropped just above the ankle, a fine gauge black knit, and no visible sock, which is how this silhouette earns its way into an office. A premium leather upper on a low, flat court last changes how the shoe ages: it creases across the toe box in lines rather than collapsing, it takes conditioner, and it holds the Metallic Cool Grey finish as a surface rather than a print. The Swoosh, drawn by Carolyn Davidson and first used on 18 June 1971, sits along the sidewall where the eye expects it on a tennis shoe. No midsole cushioning figure is published to you here, so treat this as a flat, low profile shoe built for standing and walking rather than for distance. Expect a slim collar and a shallow toe spring that keeps the profile close to the ground.
