Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 24 June 2025 as part of Nike's Air Max 90 line. This release has a leather upper in Particle Grey/Neutral Grey/Cyber/Black/Coconut Milk/White. The Air Max line arrived in 1987 and cut a window into the midsole, turning a sealed pressurised gas unit into something you could see, which made the cushioning itself a design feature for the first time. The 90 is the model that took that idea and framed it, adding bold panel blocking around the exposed unit so the technology read as a graphic rather than as an aperture. This Patta pair is an SP build in Cyber, a yellow-green so electric it belongs closer to a warning label than to a colourway. On a shoe designed to show you its engineering, that is entirely appropriate.
Cyber is not a colour you can half-commit to. Recipe one: black wide-leg technical trousers, a black longsleeve and a black shell jacket, so the yellow-green is the only light source in the outfit. Recipe two: grey heavyweight sweatpants, a white tee and a navy jacket, which cools the green and keeps it at ankle level. Air Max 90 lasts fit close to true to size with a slightly narrow toe box, so a half size up helps wide feet. Clean the layered panels individually with a soft brush and mild solution, keep the midsole away from harsh whiteners near coloured foam, and avoid long sun exposure, which dulls fluorescents faster than anything else.
Air Max models became staples of mainstream American youth dress from the 1980s and returned repeatedly through 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure looks, and in Europe the 90 in particular took on a life independent of anything Nike engineered. Collaborations on it are treated as events by people who have followed the silhouette for decades. Nike's partnership instinct is old and broad, running from Wieden and Kennedy in 1976, which produced Just Do It, through Nike Plus with Apple, to the acquisition of virtual sneaker studio RTFKT in December 2021 and work with artist Takashi Murakami on digital product in 2022.
The Air Max 90's identity is its layered upper, mudguard panels, quarter overlays and a boxed heel surround that frames the visible Air unit in the midsole. That unit is Nike Air, a pressurised gas capsule sealed into the foam, exposed here as it has been since 1987. SP collaborator builds change materials and panel treatments rather than geometry, so expect texture shifts between the layers, with Cyber applied across accent panels and the sole so the colour reads as illumination rather than paint. Layered uppers with mixed materials need panel-by-panel cleaning, because a single solution will lift one texture and leave another looking flat beside it.
