Released on 13 May 2025 and part of the Revolution 8 line. This release has a mesh upper in White/Pure Platinum/Black/Bright Crimson. The Revolution is Nike's most accessible running shoe, the model that exists so that price is never the reason someone does not start. That is closer to the company's founding purpose than most of its expensive product: Blue Ribbon Sports began in 1964 because Bill Bowerman thought ordinary American runners were being sold heavy, poorly made shoes, and he sold better ones from the boot of Phil Knight's car at track meets. An eighth version means the design has been refined repeatedly at that price point. White with Bright Crimson is the classic running colour scheme, a clean base with one loud accent, the visual language the sport has used since long before technical fabrics existed.
Two uses. Running: shorts or light joggers, a technical tee, proper running socks, laces locked through the top eyelet so the heel does not lift. Gym and daily: joggers or track pants with a white tee and a light jacket, the crimson accent picked up by something else you are wearing rather than left on its own. Buy about half a size up for longer runs to allow for swelling. White uppers on a running shoe get dirty fast, so clean with mild soap and a soft brush and never put them in a machine. Air dry away from heat, and rotate with a second pair if you run more than three times a week.
Nike's most consequential running story is about what the shoe does rather than who wears it. The Vaporfly, launched in 2017, paired ZoomX foam with a full length carbon fibre plate, and peer research found it could improve marathon times by as much as 4.2 percent. That forced World Athletics to write rules on 31 January 2020 capping sole thickness at 40mm, allowing one rigid plate, and requiring shoes to be available at retail; compliant Vaporfly models remain legal. The reason that matters to a shoe at this price is that it reset what everybody expects a midsole to do. The whole industry now competes on cushioning because Nike proved cushioning was worth measuring.
An entry level trainer has to get the basics right and skip the rest. That means a light, breathable mesh style upper, a foam midsole with enough give for regular mileage, and an outsole pattern that grips a pavement without adding weight. Nike's cushioning research at the top of the range does eventually reach shoes like this. ZoomX, the altered Pebax foam used in the Vaporfly, and the Air unit that went visible on the 1987 Air Max, are both arguments about protecting a runner from repeated impact, and that argument filters down. Bright Crimson on a white upper is high visibility by accident. Never machine wash a foam midsole, air them between runs, and retire them when the rebound goes flat.
